Kogi BBQ, a restaurant in Culver City, has become a veritable cult phenomenon by taking their food to the streets. But the beauty of the story, is the small restaurant that has blown-up overnight because they have embraced social media, namely Twitter. They have leveraged the number of people in the communities by taking their delicious and unique Korean/Mexican fusion food to the streets, and sending their fans on what equates to a wild goose hunt. They tweet out the locations they are going to, usually random industrial areas in the evening, and the word of mouth epidemic takes it from there. Malcolm Gladwell would say that the information got to the right Mavens, Connectors, and Salesmen, and the quality of their product did the rest.
Don’t take my word for it, follow them on Twitter, find out their next location, and head on out. Just make sure you get there early!

Here are a few videos to follow up to our previous post about the time spent marching in Fashion Island for the March for Babies. Above is the pre-race video of us getting ready to march. A nice turnout, which just goes to show that no matter what economy we are in, people will always be there to help out!
Hit the jump for 3 interviews with marchers and volunteers and find out why they took the time out to support such a great cause. You can also check out the finish line footage over here.

Mobo Media marches for babies!

I was more than happy to particpate for in the March for Babies this past Sunday in Newport Beach. This was the second time I’ve participated in this great event, which benefits pre-mature babies and their families, to ensure we all grow up healthy and strong. It’s a great reason to get out, talk to people, help out a great cause, and enjoy a beautiful Sunday morning walking around Newport Beach.
I participated in the 5.5 mile walk along with Team Triumph, with whom I walked last year. Chris Soden, Jayson Aquino, and Juan Varela, college friends of mine who decided on a whim to do this event last year. We had such a great time that we knew we wanted to do it again last year. The team was able to raise the $1200 goal set before the race which was a large but clearly attainable amount of money.
If you haven’t had a chance to participate in this type of event, you really should consider it. It doesn’t matter what the cause, whether it be breast cancer, diabetes, or pre-mature babies, grab some friends, take one day out of your weekend and spend it helping and supporting those that need it.
Hit the jump for some pictures of the event, and stay tuned for some video interviews with some of the walkers!

Well we finally got around to it and got ourselves a custom Twitter background. We are finally in the same league as such rockstars as Chris Brogan, Calvin Lee, Mari Smith, Chris Pirillo and more
It’s orange, simple, and clean. It also allows for more information to be put about ourselves other than the limited # of characters that Twitter gives you. It’s currently launched on my Twitter profile only so feel free to stop by, check it out and let me know what you think!
You can also learn how I created this (simple but the dimensions are tricky) over here.

Michael Bay Arrives at the LG Booth
Just a short vid showing Michael Bay and who I believe is his publicist or agent (feel free to correct me; I’m referring to the blonde women walking next to him) arriving at the LG exhibit at CTIA 2009. Michael was in Vegas for Showest and stopped by the LG exhibit to talk about the relationship between LG and Transformers 2 and hype up the movie a bit. Michael strolled through the exhibit, shook hands, and seemed like a pretty nice guy even asking an onlooker if he wanted to take a photograph with him (the onlooker had been snapping photos of Michael prompting the offer). Look him up on IMDB or click on the Michael Bay link on my previous post for more info.

Stroll Through the LG Exhibit at CTIA 2009
Filed Under Business, Design, Interviews | Comments
Just a quick walk through of the LG exhibit at CTIA 2009 in lovely Las Vegas. I’m going to have to give the LG display the infamous Mobo Media nod for having the most aesthetically pleasing booth at CTIA. It also gets the award for biggest booth by a major handset manufacturer (not sure of actual sq. ft.; just eye-balling). I know Santa Ana, CA’s Powerwave had a much larger exhibit complete with one of only seven (I think I heard that correctly) full-motion, virtual reality Formula 1 simulators in the world but they’re in a different category altogether (Note: their booth was just as big last year and while the vast majority of CTIA exhibitors downsized, Powerwave maintained sq. ft. and location).
I took some pics of noteworthy features and posted them via Twitpic. I’ll get those up on the site soon. I think my ADD kicked in as I walked by the wall of new Xenon’s and I neglected to post a pic of those sexy handsets that occupied a large piece of LG property. Click here to read Nicole Lee’s review of the Xenon on CNET.
I’ll be posting a couple more vids of Michael Bay doing a promo for Transformers (LG was involved with Transformers 2) and the new LG “Transformers” Handset (looks weak).
Full Disclosure: I am half Korean but I assure you that my ethnicity in no way biased my write-up of LG or it’s display. Did I mention Samsung’s exhibit? I kid, I kid. I own two Fords and a Yamaha and have a Blackberry. There!
Note: please forgive the out-of-frame shots. I was using my new Flip MinoHD for the first time and am still getting used to framing my self.

The Matador Cantina in Fullerton (formerly Rockin’ Taco) has officially opened and man is it a nice touch to what has slowly become a played out strip of noise pollution. It seems to me that as time has progressed (especially recently in this down economy) that the truly great places (read: Commonwealth Lounge, Slide Bar, Chomps, etc) have really started to rise to the top. I know Rockin’ Taco was beloved to many, but the great owners of the Matador Cantina are no slouches. They’ve been doing restaurants (The District Lounge in Orange and Newport, The Landmark in Newport Beach, 2 J’s in Fullerton) right for a while now and know a thing or two about quality.
We were there Sunday for their friends and family exclusive debut and definitely had a great time. The decor is solid with great mood lighting, subtle music (which goes up after 10:30 p.m.), large works of art, an outrageously awesome wrought iron bust of a bull (above), and the outside custom-made neon sign makes the place jump right out into the street. Food and drinks are on par with the rest of their restaurants; fresh, house-made and delicious. Bring an appetite though, after 2 appetizers (queso fundito and cantina rolls) I could scarcely touch my delicious main entreé of a festively crusted green pepper stuffed robustly with chicken and cheese.
UPDATE: the chile relleno tasted fantastic the next day as a hearty lunch. Don’t be afraid of leftovers from this place!
Enough reading though, go there anytime of the week for great service and great food.
Follow the restaurant on Twitter, Myspace and Facebook or visit them here.
Hit the jump for photos of the place, one of the owners, and the entrees.

Mobo Media on the Move
Hey folks, just a quick note to let you guys know that I was MIA the last few days due to CTIA. Hopefully many of you caught the tweets on the site or via your favorite Twitter reader (Tweetdeck, ehem!). I had a great time at the convention, saw some cool new wireless products (primarily apps and tech, not so much coolness going on with handhelds), and made some great new friends. Big thanks at to Andy Fathollahi (@incipio_andy), President of Incipio, for taking care of me at the show. He and his team are awesome and I’m so fortunate to be working with them.
Anyway, Justin aka @bigheadasian and I have been super busy and we’ll be showing off some of our new work soon. In the mean time, peruse our site, follow us on Twitter (I’m @mobomedia), and check us out on YouTube (search: Mobo Media).
Take care and have an awesome week!
